JOSHUA T LAW (Conductor)
Professor Joshua Law has taught voice, choir and East Asian music at City College of San Francisco since 1972. He was elected as Chairperson of the Asian Studies Department in 2002 and retired from the college in 2009. After his retirement, he has been requested to continue directing the oratorio chorus of the College, which, under his baton, has performed numerous major choral masterworks every semester. Joshua has taught for over twenty five years at local theological seminaries on church music ministries, Soteriology and Ecclesiology.
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Joshua began his musical life playing violin in his high school orchestra. He also played trumpet as a teenager and started cello lessons at college. In his senior year at college, majoring in Social Work, he won first place in a city wide singing contest that landed him in Europe immediately after graduation.
Joshua came to the States and was accepted into the graduate school at Cal State L. A. from which he obtained his master’s degree in music. He specialized in voice and choral conducting, studying voice with Esther Andreas and William Vennard at USC, choral conducting with Francis Baxter and orchestral conducting with Gaylord Browne, Ethnomusicology with Tak Shindo. He further specialized in vocal acoustics and diction and was selected as a vocal pedagogy workshop singer by Richard Miller. In addition to playing various string instruments, Joshua plays baritone horn, trombone and other wind instruments. Joshua has performed on numerous occasions leading roles in operas and oratorios, directed oratorio productions and Broadway shows, sang solo concerts, produced many concerts and music for radio and TV programs and served as chief judge in numerous singing contests.
As a popular choir director, Joshua is frequently invited by local and international churches for advice and workshops. To equip him for such frequent invitations, he had pursued theological education which prepared him for the pastoral ministry.

羅天樂教授自1972年以來任教於舊金山市立大學音樂系,教授獨唱,合唱團和東亞音樂。這是全美最大的社區學院,有十三校舍,十一萬學生,四千三百選修音樂課。他每年平均主辦八個大小型的音樂會,包括合唱,獨唱,世界文族音樂,樂隊和獨唱比賽。2002年,他當選為亞洲研究系的系主任,並在2009年從大學退休。此後,他繼續指揮該大學的合唱團,並繼續每學期表演大型合唱古典傑作。他曾在灣區的神學院教授教會音樂,救恩學,教會學,聖經人類學及靈魂學等科目超過二十年。

來美後羅教授進入加州州立大學洛衫磯分校研究院進修聲樂,指揮學及文族音樂(Ethnomusicology),從師聲樂於安德烈亞斯(Esther_Andreas)及南加洲大學的威廉雲納(William_Vennard,),合唱指揮學於弗朗西斯·巴克斯特(Francis_Baxter),管弦樂指揮學於蓋洛德·布朗(Gaylord_Browne),民族音樂學於德進藤(Tak_Shindo)。羅教授專門從事聲樂的音響學和吐字(Oral_Acoustics_and_Singer’s_Diction),他被著名聲樂教授理查德·米勒(Richard_Miller)選作為聲樂教學研討會歌手。除了上述提及的弦樂器外,羅教授亦演奏中音號(Baritone_horn),長號(Trombone)等管樂器。羅教授多次擔任歌劇和清唱劇獨唱角色,指揮並製作多場清唱劇,百老匯音樂劇和電視音樂劇。主演多場獨唱獨奏音樂會,電台和電視節目製作,並在眾多歌唱比賽中擔任首席評判。
